The due date for homeowners to pay their taxes without penalty could be pushed back to September. For the second year in row, Cook County homeowners are poised to get more time to pay their property taxes without penalty due to the pandemic.
The current due date for the second installment of property tax payments is Aug. 2, but it is likely to be pushed back to Sept. 1.
Nicholas Mathiowdis, a spokesman for the Cook County Board President, said “Nothing is set in stone yet, but that date [Sept. 1] is likely,” he said. “This has been a difficult year for everyone, and (last year) taxpayers were allowed to pay until Oct. 1 without penalties or interest and will be afforded the same this year.”
